FIESTA 2011 is almost here...and this year it's not just a celebration for humans

IT'S HERE! IT'S HERE!!! Looks like people couldn't wait any longer, so Fiesta 2011 has been moved up to April 7-17th! If you haven't already started working on your homemade cascarones...START NOW!! This year were not the only ones able to participate in this 10 day extravaganza, our pooches and kitties can also join in the PAAAARTY! Here are some MUST SEE Fiesta events designed for our furry friends. 

FIESTA FIDOS and FASHION

Dogs dressed up in cute little sparkly outfits?!! What more could you possibly ask for?! Well that's exactly what's going down March 27th at North Star Mall at the Canine Costume Contest.Contest begins at 3:30 pm.(Rules and regulations will apply, see http://www.northstarmall.com/) Registration for best dressed contest will be from 1-3PM, the day of the event only and will close promptly at 3:00 pm. All pets must be on a leash or in carrier, and must enter the mall at the entrance between Saks and Toni &Guy. Our cute kitty outfits will have to wait another day because this event is for DOGS ONLY. 1st Prize receives- a Grand Hyatt Weekend get away with Destination Humane Package 2nd prize- $100 Gift Card from NSM -certificate from Renee Spade 3rd prize-$50 Gift Card from NSM - fiesta basket. Contest will be judged by 4 celebrity judges including the winner of last years "El Rey Fido"-Bascom. So start perfecting your pup's runway strut because i have a feeling this event will have some stiff competition!

Show the Whole City of San Antonio How Regal Your Dog or Cat Is! Your canine may be king or queen of your casa, but does he or she have what it takes to become San Antonio’s next top dog? The contest is on for El Rey Fido 2011, and this year, it’s not just going to the dogs- one cat will also rise above the rest to join the 2011 El Rey Fido Royal Court! It’s as simple as this: To become crowned El Rey Fido IX, your dog (and you) must collect more money for the orphaned pets of the San Antonio Humane Society than any other canine-and-human pair. El Rey Fido will lead a Royal Court to include four other dogs and one cat: the top three dog fundraisers after El Rey Fido; the one dog who garners the highest number of individual contributors (regardless of the dollar amount raised); and the cat who is the top fundraiser among all felines. El Rey Fido IX and the dogs and cat on the Court will serve as ambassadors for the San Antonio Humane Society for the following year.

- The fundraising deadline is March 25, 2011 at 5pm (offline donations need to be at the SAHS by 5pm).
- Coronation will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at 1pm at the Grand Hyatt San Antonio,

- The new El Rey Fido and members of his/her court will be crowned in a royal celebration that is free of charge. It will be open to the public and well-behaved dogs accompanied by their owners. Free self parking; valet is $10.

FIESTA POOCH PARADE

April 16, 8:00am-12:00pm

Calling all pooches!!! Come to a howling good time of walking, sniffing, and otherwise cavorting with fellow pooches.…Oh, bring your humans, too!!! Therapy Animals of San Antonio proudly presents its 13th annual Fiesta Pooch Parade! If you love your dog, this event is for you! Dog lovers from all over the San Antonio area will bring their best friends to this family oriented event, which benefits local community programs. Wind your way through the lovely tree-lined streets of Alamo Heights in this 5K (3-mile)sure-to-be-pleasing, tail-wagging route. Come early for special exhibits and educational presentations that you and your furry friend can enjoy! Does your

pooch like to “dress up”? Then the ever- popular, ever-growing“Canine Costume Contest” is for you-come early for that!! Pre-registration: $20 per one human and pooch or $25 per family and all the family dogs. Pre-registration must be postmarked by April 9. Registration on the day of the event will be $25 and $30. Gates open for registration at 8 a.m. But avoid the lines, save some money and register in advance.
